MicroPort® Orthopedics holds joint workshop on joint surgery with China-Japan Friendship Hospital

Beijing, China—Recently, MicroPort® Orthopedics, a subsidiary of MicroPort Scientific Corporation (00853.HK), and China-Japan Friendship Hospital jointly held a practical techniques workshop on joint surgery. With the theme of “Primary TKA with a Medial-Pivot Design”, the workshop brought together more than 30 orthopedic surgeons, in addition to dozens of doctors across China who joined the workshop online and shared their insights.

Prof. Weiguo Wang and Prof. Debo Yue from China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Prof. Dongquan Shi from Gulou Hospital affiliated to the Medical School of Nanjing University, and Prof. Chuan He from Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University, who are the experts in the field of knee joint, were invited to share knowledge on medial-pivot type primary TKA technique from multiple perspectives.

During the workshop, Prof. Weiguo Wang presented on the topic of “TKA Surgery for Varus Knee”, focusing on the surgical approach of varus knee treatment and the principles for soft tissue releases. He spoke highly of the informative and practical nature of the workshop, which allowed him to share more experience and practical techniques with participating peers. The topic of Prof. Debo Yue’s lecture was “Clinical Experience on Medial-Pivot Knee TKA”, in which he emphasized that increased proficiency among surgeons can lead to a better prognosis for their patients. Prof. Dongquan Shi presented on “Exploring the Thinking Methodology for Arthrosurgeons”. He said that surgeons should pay attention to certain steps when performing medial-pivot knee surgery, such as the order of “tibial plateau - spacer - femoral condyle” during prosthesis implantation. He also encouraged participating doctors to focus on solving practical problems, actively participate in innovative research and promote its effective translation into practice. Prof. Chuan He shared his thoughts on the design concept and advantages of the medial-pivot design. He analyzed the biomechanical principles of the human knee joint and the design concept of the medial-pivot knee from the perspective of sports mechanics. In the light of clinical experience, he shared the advantages of the medial-pivot knee design in helping patients restore their natural knee movement patterns.

Several joint surgeons from China-Japan Friendship Hospital were also invited to share their experience in primary TKA replacement, covering a number of topics such as comparison of different TKA alignments, selection of surgical approach, considerations for TKA surgery for rheumatoid arthritis and other indications, perioperative pain management and rapid rehabilitation.

In addition to theoretical lectures, Prof. Weiguo Wang and Prof. Debo Yue were invited to conduct a live teaching session on TKA surgery using medial pivot knee prosthesis. During the Q&A session after the surgery, the two professors gave an in-depth analysis of the specific surgical steps of the primary TKA and shared common Intraoperative problems and tips for solving them. The participating doctors also engage in discussions together through a hybrid online-offline approach.

During the workshop, the “China-Japan Friendship Hospital Training Base for Medial-pivot Knee Surgery”, jointly sponsored by Sino-Japan Friendship Hospital and MicroPort® Orthopedics was inaugurated. In the future, both organizations will make full use of this platform to conduct more high-quality training on medial-pivot knee techniques for doctors across the country. Prof. Jun Zhou, President of China-Japan Friendship Hospital, said, “China-Japan Friendship Hospital has unique expertise in the field of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and medial-pivot type total knee arthroplasty. This medial-pivot knee workshop will further improve the technical level of surgeons, better serve the community and enhance technical leadership. ”

Zixin Weng, President of MicroPort® Orthopedics, said, “MicroPort® Orthopedics will continue to organize training courses on knee and hip arthroplasty across the country, further strengthening communication and exchange with orthopedic specialists, deepening medical-industrial cooperation, promoting the continuous development of joint surgery, and providing patients and surgeons with total medical solutions in the field of orthopedic diseases. ”
