The Project "Research on a Minimal Invasive, High Efficiency Orthopedic Robotic System" Officially Launched in Shanghai
Shanghai, China – On June 28, the project "Research on a Minimal Invasive, High Efficiency Orthopedic Robotic System" was officially launched in Shanghai. The project was listed in the National Key Research & Development ("R&D") Plan, falling into the category of "Digital Diagnostic Equipment R&D." It is a four-year project co-developed by Suzhou MicroPort OrthoRecon Co., Ltd. ("MicroPort® OrthoRecon"), Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Peking University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Third Military Medical University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Medical Device Testing Institute.
MicroPort® Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Zhaohua Chang attended and addressed the launching ceremony of the project. He said:" MicroPort® will continue to work with the R&D teams of the hospitals and institutions to jointly develop the orthopedic robotic system that would hopefully directly benefit the surgeons and patients." Academician Kerong Dai of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor Yan Wang, President Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University, also delivered speeches to encourage the project team to develop the first orthopedic robotic system in China with lofty aspirations and unremitting efforts. The Principal Scientist of the project Director Huiwu Li of Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University then briefly introduced the project, outlined the core tasks of each sub-project, and discussed about problems that may arise with leaders of the project co-developers to lay a solid foundation for its future development.
