Dr. Brian Yale Chang serves as Chief Medical Officer of the company and a member of GEC. He also serves as the controlling shareholder of MicroPort NeuroScientific Corporation, as well as the Non-Executive Director and Co-Chairman of the Board of MicroPort CardioFlow Medtech Corporation.
He has a professional background as an engineer and physician-scientist, and is the co-founder of several medical technology startups, where he led early-stage research and development. He previously served as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), overseeing interdisciplinary research teams and developing curriculum in cardiovascular physiology and medical technology. His academic research has focused on cardiac support devices and extracorporeal systems. He has authored 14 peer-reviewed publications and is a named inventor on multiple U.S. patents related to cardiovascular and extracorporeal technologies. Dr. Chang's contributions have been recognized through numerous honors, including the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship, the Seidman Prize for Outstanding Thesis, and teaching awards from both Harvard Medical School and MIT.
Dr. Chang obtained a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in December 2013 and May 2014 respectively, graduating with University Honors and a minor in biomedical engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. in medical engineering and medical physics from MIT in June 2018, and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in May 2023, graduating magna cum laude. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital through the Stanbury Physician-Scientist Program in June 2025.
