Shanghai, China, 17 March 2022 — MicroPort Scientific Corporation (MicroPort®) recently announced that its two products, the Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot (MicroPort® Toumai®) and the VitaFlow Liberty™ Transcatheter Aortic Valve and Retrievable Delivery System (VitaFlow Liberty™), have won the “Red Dot Design Award 2022 for Product Design” for their innovative design concept and excellent performance. The products are independently developed by Shanghai Microport MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (MicroPort® MedBot®) and MicroPort CardioFlow Medtech Corporation (CardioFlow Medtech), respectively.
The Red Dot Design Award was founded by the German Design Association about 70 years ago. Known as “the Academy Awards in the field of creative designs” due to its stringent selection criteria and great credibility, it is regarded as one of the top three design awards in the world, along with the German "IF Award" and the American "IDEA Award". The Award is divided into three categories, namely the Red Dot Award: Product Design, the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design, and the Red Dot Award: Design Concept. With the motto of “in search of good design and innovation”, the Product Design Award covers a range of categories including robotics as well as medical devices and technology. Products are selected based on their innovative performance, practical function, and style excellence by a jury of experts in the field of product design based on a defined set of selection criteria.
MicroPort® Toumai® is a high-end medical device that integrates state-of-the-art multidisciplinary technologies. The system consists of a control panel, a surgery platform, and a laparoscopic imaging platform. It is designed with a master-slave remote operating mode that allows the surgeon to operate away from the operating table and perform surgery while seated. The system ensures reduced invasiveness and increased precision, stability and safety, offering the full advantage of surgical robots. MicroPort® Toumai® can be widely used in various surgical applications, including urological, gynecological, thoracic, and general procedures.
VitaFlow Liberty™ is the first motorized retrievable transcatheter aortic valve system that was approved for marketing in China. It inherits the unique design of the original VitaFlow® Transcatheter Aortic Valve and Delivery System (VitaFlow®), featuring a hybrid density stent with double-layer skirts and a bovine pericardial leaflet. Its delivery system has been enhanced with a retrievable mechanism in addition to the motorized handle, which, along with the unique double-reinforced spiral structure, not only provides for fast, stable and accurate release and retrieval, but also ensures superior flexibility and non-directionality. It is currently the only delivery system available in the Chinese market with a bendable distal end that can be bent 360 degrees.
