Porto, Portugal - September 16, 2026 — MicroPort CardioFlow announced the first two commercial implantations of its AnchorMan® Left Atrial Appendage Closure System in Portugal, marking the system’s entry into its fifth European country.
Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) is a device-based treatment strategy for stroke prevention in selected patients with atrial fibrillation.1
The procedures were performed at Hospital de Santo António in Porto, part of Unidade Local de Saúde de Santo António (ULS Santo António). They were led by Dr. João António Brum da Silveira, former president of the Portuguese Association of Interventional Cardiology (APIC), alongside his clinical team.
Post-procedural assessments confirmed appropriate device positioning in both cases, with no residual shunts or clinical complications reported at the time of assessment.
“Our experience using the AnchorMan® system has been very positive,” said Dr. João António Brum da Silveira. “Its semi-closed structural design balances strong anchoring force and safety, the delivery system operates smoothly, and the release mechanism is clear and controllable, which gives operators greater confidence. I look forward to applying this innovative device to more patients in Portugal moving forward."
The commercial introduction of AnchorMan® in Portugal further expands the system’s presence in Europe as MicroPort CardioFlow continues to develop its structural heart portfolio internationally.
