Suzhou, China, December 14, 2020 — On November 24, 2020, the inauguration ceremony of the RESEARCH&ENGINEERING ACADEMY MicroPort Scientific Corporation Suzhou Branch (“R&EA Suzhou”) was held at the MicroPort® Orthopedics China Headquarters in Suzhou Industrial Park.
Established on May 15, 2014, R&EA is a milestone for MicroPort® in terms of technology innovation for its group-based operation model. It brings public resources together at the group level to build a common platform that can be used to solve technical challenges, optimize resources and increase efficiency, thereby promoting the realization of a full innovation chain covering the entire industry.
Dr. Qiyi Luo, Chief Technology Officer of MicroPort® and Director of R&EA stated that, “the establishment of the Suzhou branch will bolster MicroPort® Orthopedics invaluable research in the fields of joints, spinal trauma, and sports medicine. Our hope is that R&EA Suzhou will continue to develop a talent and technology reserve to achieve more innovative breakthroughs that enable a wider extension of research results to end products.”
Focusing on basic research and application in orthopedics, the R&EA Suzhou will not only focus on building a competitive engineering and technical support platform, but also will serve as a training and talent reserve base and a core technology R&D center. It will also act as a transfer center of technology outcomes, providing technical support for the development of MicroPort® Orthopedics and promoting the effective application and transfer of technological breakthroughs.
Eight R&D platforms have been built at the R&EA Suzhou so far, namely: a joint research and development center, a spinal trauma research and development center, a sports medicine research and development center, a facet joint research and development center, a materials science platform, a regenerative medicine platform, among others. In the future, R&EA Suzhou will continue to focus on innovation and development of products and relevant technologies. It will also focus on VR and AI technologies, digital diagnosis and treatment, as well as new materials to benefit more patients through integrating multiple technologies and promoting the application of new technologies.
