SEOUL, South Korea — MicroPort Scientific Corporation (MicroPort, 00853.HK) recently signed a cooperation agreement with Korea University Anam Hospital. Built around the Toumai® robotic surgical system, the partnership will span telesurgery, technology innovation, clinical advancement and talent development, deepening Toumai®'s strategic presence in South Korea and the broader Asia-Pacific market.

South Korea is one of Asia's most mature markets for robotic surgery. According to Grand View Research, the country's surgical robot market was valued at approximately US$173 million in 2025 and is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 18.3%, well above the global market average. Establishing a deeper presence in such a high-barrier, high-activity market carries significant weight for Toumai®'s international expansion.

Under the agreement, the two parties will collaborate across the following areas:

  • Building on the Toumai® system, collaborating on the development of new surgical techniques and the exploration of innovative therapies, to advance innovation and clinical translation in robotic surgery;

  • Pursuing technology R&D, training infrastructure development and the operation of training centers for robotic and telesurgery, to raise clinical application standards and strengthen talent development;

  • Expanding advanced robotic surgery training and fellowship programs for medical professionals in Korea and abroad, fostering the exchange of techniques and expertise.

Korea University Anam Hospital is one of South Korea's leading institutions in robotic surgery. Hospital Director Seung Beom Han commented: "Robotic surgery has become a core technology reshaping the paradigm of modern medicine. Through this partnership, we hope Korea University Anam Hospital can draw on robotic surgical systems to contribute to the globalization of medical technology."

Greg Holman, Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort, said: "We are honored to expand our partnership with Korea University Anam Hospital. This collaboration reflects both parties' shared commitment to advancing medical innovation and improving patient care, and we look forward to achieving more breakthroughs together."

This agreement marks a new stage in the two parties' cooperation in robotic and telesurgery. It is expected to further strengthen Toumai®'s recognition and clinical adoption in the Korean market, accelerate its commercialization, and provide important support for expanding into the broader Asia-Pacific high-end medical market.
