Shanghai, China, 16 October 2023 — Recently, the SkyWalker™ Robotic-Assisted Surgical System (SkyWalker™ or SkyWalker™ Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Robot), developed by MicroPort® NaviBot™, an associated company of MicroPort® MedBot™, has been approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China.
SkyWalker™ can be utilized to assist in both total knee arthroplasty surgery (TKA) and total hip arthroplasty surgery (THA). This marks a significant advancement in terms of product functionality and surgical indications for SkyWalker™. Previously, MicroPort® NaviBot™ had already received NMPA approval for its knee joint arthroplasty planning software.
SkyWalker™ offers platform integration, standardization, precision, and personalization. Its preoperative planning system creates three-dimensional models of knee joints and hip joints based on preoperative CT scan data. This enables a generation of personalized plans for surgical procedures according to patients’ physiological anatomical characteristics.
During surgery, the high-dexterity, lightweight robotic arm of SkyWalker™ assists surgeons by performing accurate osteotomy in TKA and acetabular grinding in THA. It significantly improves postoperative lower limb alignment when compared to traditional surgery, enhancing surgical accuracy and efficiency.1
Furthermore, SkyWalker™ utilizes hip joint bone grinding, acetabular cup installation, and knee joint bone cutting tools that are essentially the same as the tools used in traditional surgery, greatly shortening the learning curve for surgeons.
